Last month's Quest asked for the submission of "mellifluous" sounding names. I offered my four favorites, Duard Farquhar, Tatiana Troyanos, Ingrid Dingfelder, and Amelita Galli-Curci. Alma Litten sent in 9 of her favorite names. I put what I thought were the most mellifluous three first:
In last month's answers I indicated that Alice B. Toklas was a pseudonym for Gertrude Stein. Wayne Dodge pointed out that Alice was actually a long time live in companion of Stein. I found the pseudonym listing on a web site of pseudonyms. The reason, I believe, is that Stein wrote her own memoirs under the title The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, hence using a pseudonym in that one publication. Alice was of course noted for her cookbook with its famous recipe for Hashish Fudge.
This month's Quest is to identify (1) what it is that nine of the following ten have in common and, if possible, (2) which one does not fit in the category.
Send me your answers (see puzzle page for contact numbers).
