The Quest for December 2000 consisted of three lists, A, B, and C, and
asked for their commonalities.
The answer was that each list contained persons from the same state.
Those in A are from Alabama (Tallulah Bankhead, Hugo Black, Joe Louis,
Jim Nabors, Jesse Owens, Rosa Parks);
those in B are from Ohio (William Jennings Bryan, Clarence Darrow, Lillian Gish,
Robert Henri, Gloria Steinem, Ted Tumer);
and those in C are from Washington (Bob Barker, Carol Channing, Bill Gates,
Jimi Hendrix, Gypsy Rose Lee, Robert Motherwell).
There was one error.
My principal source,
50states.com,
said William Jennings Bryan was from Ohio.
He was actually from Salem, Illinois.
Correct answers (and recognition of the error) came from
Delmar Burkitt,
Sue Katoll,
and
Alma Litten.
The January 2001 Quest could be called Misleading Origins.
Each of the following has a different origin than
the country or state listed.
What is the actual source?
-
- French fries
- Panama hats
- German chocolate cake
- English horn
- Kentucky rifle
- Chinese checkers
- Arabic numbers
