The December Quest asked to identify the names of twelve countries with 10 or more letters.  The answers:

1. AFGHANISTAN Seven consonants in alphabetical order.  (Should have said six.  There are seven with two N's).
2. LUXEMBOURG It's also the name of its capital city and an adjoining province in Belgium.
3. MESOPOTAMIA Became Iraq in 1921, its name decreasing by 7 letters from 11 to 4.
4. YUGOSLAVIA (Is it true the Yugo was made by a munitions factory to raise money for their civil war?)  I also accepted MADAGASCAR.  Or as Henry Ford might have said, "I made a gas car".
5. NETHERLANDS There have been numerous large projects to reclaim marshlands or land under water — and keep it that way.

Among the answers received was Austria-Hungary, by  Nick Wolf,  which became two separate entities after World War I, each with seven letters less than the original.  Accepting that gives Nick 5 out of 5 on the Quest.  Jeff Lamb  had four correct and  Alma Litten  had two.

The January Quest also deals with countries, but could be tougher.  The seven countries listed below have something that most countries don't, but they have it in different amounts.  The number to the left of the name of each tells how many.  In other words, what does Panama have two of that Australia has six of, and so forth?

1 Chile
2 Panama
3 Iraq
4 New Zealand
5 Western Samoa
6 Australia
7 Venezuela
