The August 2001 Quest
looked for the second occupation of a number
of persons well known in a first occupation
selected from the first occupations of the others listed.
I erred somewhat in having both composer and musician on the list, making each
the second profession of the other.
So there are a number of possible answers.
Here are my answers:
| Alexander Borodin |
(chemist) |
| William Jennings Bryan |
(Secretary of State) |
| John F. Dulles |
(lawyer) |
| Charles Goren |
(lawyer) |
| King Henry VIII |
(composer) |
| William Herschel |
(composer) |
| Oliver W. Holmes |
(physician) |
| Friedrich Nietzsche |
(composer) |
| Nicolo Paganini |
(head of country) |
| Joseph Priestly |
(writer, clergyman) |
| Albert Schweitzer |
(musician) |
| Omar Sharif |
(bridge expert) |
| John Philip Sousa |
(novelist) |
| Leonardo da Vinci |
(writer) |
Delmar Burkitt, Alma Litten, and Sue Katoll
all had 14 correct answers; Dennis Tomlinson had 12.
The Special RG Quest was that Vodoun, Yoruba, Macumba Lucumi,
Umbanda, and Obeah are all voodoo religions, Voudoun being the
origin of most of them.
Alma had this one as well.
The September Quest is in the form of a telegram message
(remember those?):
FUGITIVE DEADBEAT NOT KILLER (STOP) GUMSHOE SAYS EVIDENCE
FROM CORPSE PLUS ALIBI GIVE INNOCENT JUDGEMENT (STOP)
Whom does this telegram come from?
Send me your answers or comments (see
puzzle page for contact numbers).
