Columbus Area Mensa Outreach
Where There are Good Games There are Good Mensans
For the past several years, Columbus Area Mensa has done outreach at the Marcon and Origins conventions in downtown Columbus. At each event, we have an information table set up in the hall, and we sometimes have an information/discussion panel on the schedule, as well as having a testing session for those interested in taking the Mensa test. Depending on the availability of volunteers, we have members at the information table to answer questions from interested convention attendees. If you find yourself at one of these conventions, stop by and see us!Several of our members attend these conventions apart from their role in Mensa, and we find that there is considerable overlap between Mensa members and science fiction fans on the one hand, and Mensa members and tabletop gaming enthusiasts on the other. If you are interested in helping us out, please contact Julia Ashley.
About Marcon
Marcon, which bills itself as "The Midwest's Premiere Fantasy & Science Fiction Convention," is held every year in May over Memorial Day weekend. Marcon is an all-media convention that includes books, television, films, art, music, costuming, and games. Over 2000 people attend Marcon every year at the Hyatt next to the Columbus Convention Center. For more information, see http://www.marcon.org.About Origins
The Origins Game Fair is one of the largest events in the country for tabletop gaming. Over 13,000 people from around the world meet at the Columbus Convention Center in late June to see and play the latest in board games, collectible card games, and role-playing games. Origins also includes a large Exhibit Hall and an Art Show. For more information, see http://www.originsgamefair.com.Last modified: February 12th, 2009
